Weekend Kids’ Meals Program

During the school year, Feed My People Food Bank provides bags of food to school-aged children in the Chippewa Valley with their “Weekend Kids’ Meals” program.  Every week, more than 2,000 children in our local schools are sent home with a bag of groceries to help ensure that they are getting enough to eat on the weekends, when school lunches are not available to them.  For many of these children, free or reduced school lunches may be the only meals that they will get on a regular basis.

Call to Action

In an effort to help our local children, Riverbend Rentals is holding a food drive specifically for this program.  We will accept donations at our office from now until September 30th.  You can also provide monetary donations to the cause and allow Feed My People to purchase most-needed items directly.  Your contributions are tax deductible and we would be happy to provide a receipt for all donations.

To encourage participation, all tenants who donate a full bag of food or donate $20 or more will be entered into a drawing for an area gift certificate, yet to be determined.

How to Donate

Help us end childhood hunger in the Chippewa Valley by donating today.  Your gifts can be brought to our office Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm.  Contact Ali at (715) 225-4200 or at if you have questions or need an alternative drop off time.

What to Donate

For this particular program, the donation needs may differ from what you might ordinarily put in a food drive.  Because this drive is specifically geared to feeding children, you may want to include some of the following items:

  • Peanut butter
  • Cereal (low sugar)
  • Instant oatmeal
  • Tuna (or other canned meats)
  • Soup & meals in a can (chili, beef stew, chicken noodle soup, etc.)
  • Pasta & sauce (don’t forget the sauce — they always have significantly more pasta than sauce donated.  Also consider whole wheat pasta!)
  • Pancake mix & syrup
  • Juice boxes (100% juice — not cocktail)
  • Canned fruit (packed in juice – not syrup)
  • Canned vegetables (low sodium)
  • Shelf stable milk

Obviously you can donate whatever you would like — this is just a guide to the items that are specifically needed for this program.

Just be sure to check the expiration dates, as the food bank will not accept expired food products.

Our team here at Riverbend wants to make a real difference in the Chippewa Valley.  This is our home, too.  These are our neighborhoods, our schools, and our children.  We have an obligation to help and be of service to our community and we hope that you will join us in standing up to stop childhood hunger in our backyards.

We want to thank you in advance for your participation in this worthy cause.   Please contact Ali if you have any questions or concerns.   Also feel free to check out the Feed My People website here for more information on their organization, who they serve, how to volunteer, and the Weekend Kids’ Meals program.
